Support for SermonSpeaker 4.x is canceled as it is for Joomla 2.5. I will gladly assist you with minor issues but I will not fix any bugs anymore in this releases.
The fix is to upgrade to SermonSpeaker 5.x and Joomla 3.x, which is better anyway.

It's only showing the following search options:
Search by Author
Search by Category
Search by Country
Search by Language
Search by Region
Search by Type

Is there a way to have only options related to sermonspeaker things like
search by series
search by speaker
etc?
Or does the finder plugin only make sure that sermonspeaker things get indexed and that's the extent of it?

You can filter by "Type" to only get sermons. But the other options don't exist (yet) in finder. The finder plugin is a very basic one as I didn't had the time yet to work on it more.
