Support for SermonSpeaker 5.x is in bugfix mode only, the same as it is for Joomla 3.10.
I will not add any new features to this releases.
Please upgrade to SermonSpeaker 6.x and Joomla 4.x, which is better anyway.

That sure sounds like a bad configured webhost then.
You need to contact your hoster to fix it. The issue comes most likely from the fact that your FTP user is different from the webserver (Apache) user.
Your hoster can change the owners of the files or better change the server to run under your FTP user.
If the host doesn't change the webserver user, you need to enable zhe FTP mode in Joomla.
