migration to joomla 3

I want to migrate from joomla 2.5 to 3.x.
I tested on a local machine with xampp by installing joomla 3 and then copy the old tables to the new database.
This does not work, because the structure is different I think.
How to solve this problem.

The version on our site is 4.5.8, is higher then the supported version 4.5.4.
I will try this in the test environement.

Ah sorry, my fault for not reading close enough.
If you have already installed SermonSpeaker 4.5.8 in Joomla 2.5, you cna just upgrade your Joomla to 3. SermonSpeaker 4.5.8 is compatible with both versions of Joomla.
After the upgrade, you will see a new update for SermonSpeaker which you can install. The install routine will do everything for you.

The upgrading/migrating from 2.5 to 3.3 is a disaster.
I made serveral attempts but jupgrade fails every time.

I intend to start a fresh install of 3.3.
With more than 600 sermons I want to ask if there is a possibilty to import the sermons from 2.5 version in the 3.3. version of the sermonspeaker component.
