Still having trouble getting things working

It's guessing, but have a look at the global tab and there the "Play icon function" and "Title link function"
At least the title one should point to the "detailpage" and may be set to "direct file" instead.

It's easy when you know where to look

on the Detailpage tab, what do the "Custom1" and "Custom2" toggles do? My details page is still very sparse.

Here is a link to one of the detail pages. All it shows is the player, the name of the sermon, and a download button. No other details like, published date, sermon date, speaker info. The regular list has more "details" than the "detailpage" does. I'm sure it is some setting I jacked around with, but I can't figure it out.

You probably want to use another layout for the detailpage. I would recommend the "content" or "icon" one.

The custom1 and custom2 fields are custom fields which can be used for special purposes. It's basically two additional text fields in the database which can be filled with anything you want. You have to give them some other names using the language files and probably adjust the layouts.
