Support for SermonSpeaker 4.x is canceled as it is for Joomla 2.5. I will gladly assist you with minor issues but I will not fix any bugs anymore in this releases.
The fix is to upgrade to SermonSpeaker 5.x and Joomla 3.x, which is better anyway.

The value is set by SermonSpeaker, not the video itself. I use this in the case of the playlist player where it will stretch to fit the available space, not a fixed value.
Upgrading from JW Player 5.7 to 5.8 shouldn't generate any issues, it's a simple replacement of the files. If it gives you any problems you could always replace them with the 5.7 ones again.
So I would just try it and see if it works
