Support for SermonSpeaker 3.x is canceled as it is for Joomla 1.5. I will gladly assist you with minor issues but I will not fix any bugs anymore in this releases.
The fix is to upgrade to SermonSpeaker 4.x, which is better anyway.

Well, nothing worked. I even locked myself out of the backend and had to reinstall the site from a backup. There are good reasons to have current backups. So, what's next?
thanks, jon

How did you lock yourself out? There shouldn't be a system plugin which can cause this.
Do you have the latest release of Joomla (1.5.22)?
I have no clue what else could be the source of this. Something is sending out data (even an empty space) before SermonSpeaker starts working, and thus breaks the feed and download function. Usually only system plugins can do this, if they are written badly.

Yes, it is 1.5.22. I don't know what I did to lock myself out, but the backend just didn't open.
When you say "plugin," do you mean plugin in the Joomla sense, or any extension - component, module, plugin ?
thanks, jon

Only the plugins in a Joomla sense. And only the system ones of those.
Not the authenticating ones - maybe you deactivated those?
So go to "Extensions" -> "Plugin Manager". Select type "system" and state "enabled" in the dropdown boxes on the right side.
Now can disable the plugins and see if it fixes it. Try especially those that were not shipped with the Joomla Core itself. Like plugins that came with the template or an extension.

Thanks, but no better. I recreated this site in November. SS was working OK until a couple weeks ago. In Nov the feed validated ok.
Might I try reinstalling SS? If so, do I uninstall SS first? I remember with an earlier version that had to be done.

Didn't you change anything recently?
Then maybe it's also related to a server setting your hoster changed? I'm not familiar enough with how to set up a server, so don't know if that can cause an issue.
You can reinstall over the existing version, it will replace all files.
You may also deinstall and reinstall it. The data in the database will remain unchanged. However it will delete all files (also sermons in /components/com_sermonspeaker/media) and all settings you made and revert to the default ones. You also have to recreate all menu links (clickt them once and save again) then as they probably will break.
