I encounter this problem also. On a page showing NO player, e.g. by removing the tick of Player at Columns global configuration, the element "mediaspace1" is not in the page at all. But the loading of
/media/plg_sermonspeaker_mediaelement/js/sermonspeaker.js
line 10:
document.getElementById("mediaspace1").addEventListener('play', ss_changeListItem);
causes Chrome to show error in the inspect function.
Apparently it does not harm the function, since there is no player anyway, but it looks not good.

I think it should be simple to solve, I'll have a look this evening.

I've fixed the issue in GitHub (see github.com/Bakual/SermonSpeaker/commit/3...255be6b907e4f995133e ).

The next release will contain the fix.
