Support for SermonSpeaker 5.x is in bugfix mode only, the same as it is for Joomla 3.10.
I will not add any new features to this releases.
Please upgrade to SermonSpeaker 6.x and Joomla 4.x, which is better anyway.

Non-super users could not change Categories of sermons series speakers

Dear Thomas,
I have a site where I added a user Group "Our Managers" under Manager" and grant it rights to login to administration and edit rights to Sermon Speaker component.
The users in Our Managers could login at back-end and edit sermons and series and speakers but strangely he sees those entries' Categories which has only 1 value, the Category of the sermons/series/speakers' existing value. There are no other values to choose from. He could edit all other fields, though, just could not change the Categories values.
I had to grant him the Super User rights before he sees other values in the list.
I can't figure out what settings I have done wrong.
At some other sites I manager there was no such problem.
Would you kindly advise?
Thank you.
Ken

From looking at the (Joomla) code, for new items it checks if you're allowed to "Create" in a category, for existing items it additionally checks the "Edit State" permission.
In theory, the categories should inherit the permissions from the component. So I'd check the permissions of the categories to see if you have some values changed there.

Thanks for reply. You inspired me to find out why the user missed that permission.
It turned out he belongs to 2 groups. One grants him the rights and the other inhibits him from doing that. The more restrictive permission applied. I removed the restrictive group and he is good now.
Thank you.

Ah yes, that explains it as well.
