Support for SermonSpeaker 5.x is in bugfix mode only, the same as it is for Joomla 3.10.
I will not add any new features to this releases.
Please upgrade to SermonSpeaker 6.x and Joomla 4.x, which is better anyway.

New Sermon takes a long time to create

In the admin, I am creating a sermon from a file that I had previously uploaded. This takes a considerable amount of time to complete once I click on either "Save and New" or "Save and Close". Most of the time it ends up timing out with an Internal Server Error. I then have to refresh the browser or go back in the browser to get back into the admin.
As far as I can tell, this only happens with SermonSpeaker and no other extensions.

Running latest version of Joomla 3.6.5 and SermonSpeaker, however this has been happening for about 6 months now.

I contacted my host to try and work through this. The physical memory and processes were maxed out on the server. The host stopped all processes and that got me going again. It appears the script was stuck in a redirect loop and not timing out. Hmmm....

The only thing that I can imagine which could take longer is the writing of the ID3 tags during save. You can disable that option in the SermonSpeaker settings. Other than that there may be some plugins which act during the save event.

There should be no redirect loop initiated by SermonSpeaker. Maybe something else is installed on the site which causes that?

Even if I hit "Cancel" on the sermon manager page, it still buffers to no end and then returns a Internal Server Error.

OK. I turned off the Write ID Tags after Save" and that did the trick. Do I need to do something to make that work or just leave it off?

If you get an internal server error, you should see the exact error message in the PHP server error log.
