Support for SermonSpeaker 5.x is in bugfix mode only, the same as it is for Joomla 3.10.
I will not add any new features to this releases.
Please upgrade to SermonSpeaker 6.x and Joomla 4.x, which is better anyway.

Is there a way to batch-assign categories? I need to assign a category to all my old sermons (I think) so just wondering if there's a way other than going into each one individually

Yes, in backend there is a batch button which lets you move (or copy) the selected items to another category. That works for sermons, series and speakers.

Oh duh, sorry! I did see that but somehow misread the intent and didn't understand the "move/copy" thing. Awesome!
