Support for SermonSpeaker 5.x is in bugfix mode only, the same as it is for Joomla 3.10.
I will not add any new features to this releases.
Please upgrade to SermonSpeaker 6.x and Joomla 4.x, which is better anyway.

frontend uploader "out of memory"

frontend uploader "out of memory" was created by Jimmy Su
Hi there,
My site stopped allowing front end uploading about a month or so ago. At first I thought it was something on the webhosting side of things, but they have confirmed that the PHP memory limit has remained the same at 256M.
My Joomla configuration has not changed. At least, I don't think it has...
The message I get is:
Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 215220224) (tried to allocate 27529574 bytes) in /********/public_html/plugins/system/jbtype/jbtype.php on line 79
When I disable the jbtype.php plugin, the uploader can load. But enabling the Joomla administrator debugging tools uses too much memory to actually profile what is happening here.
Any help or feedback you might have would be very welcome.
Thank you very much,
Jimmy

Did you happen to update your Joomla installation around that time? Because Joomla 3.4.5 did some security improvements in regards to file uploads which may result in higher memory consumption.
I doubt you can use the Joomla profile feature for the file upload. That runs as an AJAX request and you wont see any response there.
How big are the files you're trying to upload? And do smaller files work?
The plugin could be written better as well. They do check the document type and bail out if it's not HTML (in our case it would be JSON) but they do that quite late in the process. Not sure if it would make any difference for you but it sure could save a bit of memory if they checked the document type earlier.

The memory issue does not occur on uploading files. It actually occurs in just the loading of the upload page. You make a good point that this is probably around the time that the Joomla update occurred. Do you think this update would have affected even the loading of the upload page?

By the way, thanks for your quick response and for this great software, it serves us so well!

I don't think the update should affect the loading of the page itself. That sounds strange that it uses that much memory there.
The only thing I can imagine using more memory is that it loads the file list from the server directory into the dropdowns. But it doesn't ready any file content itself, thus memory consumption should be quite low actually.
Maybe if you have a lot of files it uses more memory?
Could you try changing the path settings to a directory where there are no sermon files yet?

Just out of curiosity, how many files do you have in your directory?
You may want to look into the SermonSpeaker option to automatically create subdirectories based on year/month and/or language. This will make sure you don't get such long lists of files anymore.
