Support for SermonSpeaker 5.x is in bugfix mode only, the same as it is for Joomla 3.10.
I will not add any new features to this releases.
Please upgrade to SermonSpeaker 6.x and Joomla 4.x, which is better anyway.

I'm trying to understand the AWS integration. How does it work? Is there any difference in the behavior of a file stored on my website vs. one stored on AWS? When I tried it years ago, I seem to remember that pressing the SermonSpeaker PLAY button wouldn't work on the website if they file was stored on AWS. Have those sort of issues been resolved?

If you stored the files on your own website, it will work best with SermonSpeaker because it has full file access to it.
If you have limited webspace available on your website then it may be worth to upload them to AmazonS3 instead. Also if you have big files, it may be worth because of the performance of AmazonS3.
As long as the raw file can be retrieved by a browser directly, it should work with any player as well.
