Support for SermonSpeaker 5.x is in bugfix mode only, the same as it is for Joomla 3.10.
I will not add any new features to this releases.
Please upgrade to SermonSpeaker 6.x and Joomla 4.x, which is better anyway.

The configuration.php is usually set to readonly as soon as you save the Joomla global configuration. But it doesn't matter if it is readonly or writable.

The error that you should update first indicates that there is already an installation of SermonSpeaker present.
Can you do a "discover" in the extension manager and see if it detects something? If there is anything related to SermonSpeaker, try installing it from the discover and uninstall it again. That should make sure that existing files are removed and the database tables are deleted.

I did the discover... nothing. I can not find any "old version" of SermonSpeaker present in this website. I am not saying it is not there, I just can't find it. UGH. I really want to use this software. It normally works great.

Any other advice... please help.

That's strange. There must be a record somewhere in the system from a failed installation.
You could check the #__extension table for an entry related to "com_sermonspeaker" and delete that one.
You may also want to check the directories to see if there is
/administrator/components/com_sermonspeaker
/components/com_sermonspeaker
/media/com_sermonspeaker
If they exist, delete those folders.

If you don't feel comfortable checking the database, I could have a look myself. But I would need access to your phpMyAdmin or a similar tool.

HELP. No matter what I do, I can not install the software. I can install the modules & plugins but not the actual component. Is there a way to manually install the component so I can move on and use this software. Please advise? My client is getting very anxious (so am I). Can I FTP files up so it will work?

When I install the component, I get these errors:
Warning

I've wrote my email address in my last post or you can use the contact form on this site. :)

You could manually copy all the files to the correct places and then discover install it.
