Support for SermonSpeaker 5.x is in bugfix mode only, the same as it is for Joomla 3.10.
I will not add any new features to this releases.
Please upgrade to SermonSpeaker 6.x and Joomla 4.x, which is better anyway.

Do these instructions still apply for using JUpgradePRO to move from 1.5 to Joomla 3.2, and then to the latest, newest Sermon Speaker?

If not, how do you recommend proceeding?

Also, how do I determine what version of Sermon Speaker I am currently using in 1.5? I cant see to find the version number.

Honestly, I didn't had a look at JUpgrade for a long time. So can't say if it will work or not.
However I did the manual migration a few times recently and that one still works fine. Just follow the steps closely and don't take a shortcut

You can check the current version in the Joomla extension manager. It should show you the current installed version.
