Support for SermonSpeaker 5.x is in bugfix mode only, the same as it is for Joomla 3.10.
I will not add any new features to this releases.
Please upgrade to SermonSpeaker 6.x and Joomla 4.x, which is better anyway.

auto creation problem and layout suggestion

hello! I want to ask about the auto creation script (found in tools). I see that this script auto-creates mp3s' in sermonspeaker, looking for files in the folder /mp3 and any existing subfolder. If I add new files to this folder, running the script for a second time, will create mp3s' and auto-set them in the default series with default speakers, even if some of them have already been created(at the first run of the script) and have been moved manually in other categories/series/speakers. So,running the script for a second time will cause double registrations for the same files. Is there any way to change the default folder that the script looks in?
Also I saw that if a subfolder/file contains a special character (like "&" or apostrophe ' ) the script stops working and sometimes gives a white page. Is that normal? Renaming the files/folders is the only way to solve this?
Another problem is that when creating a mp3 manually,I have to select a category, and then select the series that I want this mp3 to belong in. In the drop-down menu of the series,I can see that all available series are shown(not only the category ones). So,if a sermonspeaker installation has many series,I find it a bit annoying to search through this menu to find the correct series. Is there a way for the drop-down series menu to "filter" and show the category-related series only? Thanks for answering and sorry for this long post

The auto creation script should not create new sermons if the file is already used in another one.
It uses the same function which also is used for searching orphaned files (also in Tools).
The category, series or speakers should not matter for this.

I could probably catch the error, but basically you will see other issues then. Using special characters in folders which are meant to be accessible over the internet is a bad idea. The folder will end up as part of the URL and special characters like & are just not allowed there. Keep folder and filenames to lowercased characters and numbers and you will be safe from errrors.

Another problem is that when creating a mp3 manually,I have to select a category, and then select the series that I want this mp3 to belong in. There's no easy way to do this. The list is populated during the loading of the form. At this time, SermonSpeaker doesn't know if you're going to change the category and thus doesn't know which series it should show.

the auto-creation is based on the filename or on the alias of the sermon? I just recalled that I changed the alias in some sermons, and in the second execution of the script, some of them reappeared (with the old alias). The reason I changed alias is that some mp3 had the same id3 tag,so sermonspeaker could not create the sermon (there was a warning about it). Another problem in the script execution was the long response time (because of the big number of files?) that caused a request timeout in the server. So it would be good for us to have the option for the folder that the script will look into. You mention above that it uses the same mechanism as the orphaned files,is there an option for the default search folder? Thanks again for supporting!

The autocreating compares the filepaths found in the folder with the filepaths stored in the sermons. It doesn't check title or alias or anything else. That's the exact same function which does the "Orphaned Files" list.
If it finds a file without a matching sermon, then it will start reading the file and create a sermon based on the id3 tags.

The folder it's going to search is the one specified as "Path for Audiofiles" and "Path for Videofiles" in the SermonSpeaker options. You can of course change that one if you like.
