Support for SermonSpeaker 5.x is in bugfix mode only, the same as it is for Joomla 3.10.
I will not add any new features to this releases.
Please upgrade to SermonSpeaker 6.x and Joomla 4.x, which is better anyway.

Error
COM_SERMONSPEAKER_UPDATE_UNSUPPORTED
Warning
Component Install: Custom install routine failure
Package Install: There was an error installing an extension: com_sermonspeaker.zip
Didn't find any hints in the forum - tried both the package and just the component.
Joomla! version, 3.1.5.

The error message should read "SermonSpeaker will not work on your installation. You need at least Joomla 3.1.4." if you try to install the latest release.
So it should work if you indeed have Joomla 3.1.5 installed.
SermonSpeaker makes a check against a defined Joomla constant to determine the Joomla version. Can you check if the Joomla version shown in the backend (see footer at the bottom right) is indeed 3.1.5? Maybe something went wrong during Joomla update.

Much clearer error message if the release info is included. Was not at 3.1.5 (updating multiple sites and looked at a different one when documenting the release). Thanks for the help.

That explains it
I don't know why the error message wasn't shown you like this. Are you using another language or have an older language pack installed? Just curious
