Support for SermonSpeaker 4.x is canceled as it is for Joomla 2.5. I will gladly assist you with minor issues but I will not fix any bugs anymore in this releases.
The fix is to upgrade to SermonSpeaker 5.x and Joomla 3.x, which is better anyway.

I'm using 4.0 on Joomla 2.5. Where do I find sorting options. The documentation says on the Global options tab, but I don't see anything about sorting here.

The documentation usually covers the latest release. I don't think the 4.0 release had this feature already.
I think in 4.0 the default order was set fix by either the ordering colummn or the sermon_date (don't remember which one it was).
