Support for SermonSpeaker 4.x is canceled as it is for Joomla 2.5. I will gladly assist you with minor issues but I will not fix any bugs anymore in this releases.
The fix is to upgrade to SermonSpeaker 5.x and Joomla 3.x, which is better anyway.

Good evening, I'm a long-time user of SermonSpeaker and have recently upgraded to Joomla 2.5 and SermonSpeaker 4.4. I'm trying to adjust one or two of the layouts but can't find the CSS classes 'filters', 'filter-search', 'filter-select', 'filter-select-lbl' or 'ordering-select' in the CSS file. Are they located somewhere else, have I missed something or are they just missing?

Those classes usually are used in the template css file, as those are classes Joomla also uses for their core extensions.
SermonSpeaker doesn't define anything here.
