Support for SermonSpeaker 3.x is canceled as it is for Joomla 1.5. I will gladly assist you with minor issues but I will not fix any bugs anymore in this releases.
The fix is to upgrade to SermonSpeaker 4.x, which is better anyway.

I entered {bib=Luke 18:9-14} into the parameters for a sermon recording . . . but then it just shows up that way on the sermon page instead of "Luke 18:9-14." What am I doing wrong?

The BibleLink plugin or the ScriptureLink plugin needs to be installed and enabled first. They are separate content plugins which are unrelated to SermonSpeaker.
