Download sermon - collect emails in exchange for downloads

Hi Thomas
  1. Sermon Speaker has missing option to collect emails in exchange for downloads. So before download the mp3 file with sermon, user will be asked to provide his email.
  2. Or link for download will be sent in the email, so we will have correct email, not just fake email address (in some cases). If he really wants that file, user will enter correct email and download will be done from the link in sent email...
  3. There is one extension - OSDownloads ( www.joomlashack.com/joomla-extensions/osdownloads/ ) and it has nice functionality, it collects emails. These emails are stored in its component. One negative thing - these emails are not possible to export. Also new email is sent during download so admin of webpage has this new emali.
  4. Sermon Speaker should have this option - to collect emails and export email addresses from backend to file or in to some other email service
  5. on our Christian radio we offer some mp3 through OSDownloads, but for every download you must define a separate download file in OSDownloads component, and this is not handy.
  6. my idea is for Sermon Speaker, that there will not be separate step to define file for downloads. Just add new sermon in to the list, define all tags and download function will be there integrated...
What you think?
Thank you.

First thing that comes to mind is that if you hide the sermon files from public access, you can no longer use the podcast and players. Those features rely on a public available URL for the files. And that URL is clearly visible in the podcast and the sourcecode of the player.

Second thing is obviously also a data protection question, especially in the EU where you would need consent to collect the email.

SermonSpeaker is indeed not built to provide such a functionality.

You can of course add the sermons into OSDownloads (or another such component) and link the sermon to that URL. But as said that would break the player and podcast. But then you're probably better of just offering the sermons in OSDownloads (or another download component) directly as SermonSpeaker doesn't offer much additional anyway.
